Pungume Island is famous for its stunning coral reefs, which provide some of the best snorkeling and diving opportunities in Zanzibar. The reefs are home to a diverse range of marine life, including colorful fish, corals, and other fascinating creatures. The warm, clear waters and excellent visibility make it an ideal spot for underwater exploration. Whether you’re an experienced diver or a beginner snorkeler, you are sure to be amazed by the beauty of the Pungume Island reef.
The Pungume Island Sandbank is a breathtaking natural wonder located off the coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania. It is known for its pristine white sands, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life. The sandbank appears at low tide, creating a picturesque scene of a white sandbar surrounded by the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean.
Furthermore, the Pungume Island Sandbank offers a serene escape from the crowds, allowing you to relax and fully appreciate the natural beauty around you.

After hotel pickup, we will head to Kizimkazi Beach to board our private boat and begin our trip. Our first stop will be snorkeling at the Pungume Island reef, where you will have the opportunity to encounter a variety of colorful tropical fish; including zebrafish, angelfish, trumpetfish, butterflyfish, and clownfish. The island’s waters are home to healthy coral reefs that provide shelter and sustenance for marine life. These reefs feature diverse colors and shapes, creating a stunning underwater landscape.
Be sure to keep an eye out for green sea turtles, which are often seen grazing on seagrass beds near the island. You might also spot other marine life such as octopus, squid, starfish, moray eels, dolphins, and even humpback whales.
After snorkeling, we will head to Pungume Sandbank, where we will set up a tent for you to enjoy some shade while we prepare a seafood platter. While at the sandbank, you can take stunning photos, go for a beach walk, swim, and sunbathe.
In addition to Pungume Island Reef and Sandbank, we may also visit Uzi Island if the tides are high. Access to Uzi Island is only possible by boat during high tide, so this will depend on the trip’s timing.
This experience is reminiscent of the Safari Blue trip but offers even more to enjoy.
